four-cornered battle for top honours at Singer Autogard races today

by S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen , Kandy Sports Corr.

Formula racing will get into full flight when top racing drivers like Dilantha Malagamuwa, Rohan de Silva, Dinesh Jayawardena and Risvi Farook will be involved in a tense battle at the inaugural Singer Autogard Motor Races 2003 organised jointly by Negombo Motor Sports Club, Anuradhapura Motor Sports Club and Ruhunu Motor Sports Club and sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka (Pvt.) Limited which will be worked off at the Pannala International Circuit today.

Dilantha Malagamuwa and Rohan de Silva are experienced in Formula racing having raced in Sri Lanka and abroad while Dinesh Jayawardena and Risvi Farook have improved tremendously since they took to formula racing two years back having won events. Others who should sparkle are Dejan de Zoysa, Michael Muthumani and Simon Lourensz. Romani de Silva another outstanding performer in his Mobil Van Diemon Scholar is a doubtful starter as he is out of the country at present and will make it to the tracks if he returns on time.

The Super Cars event should also see a titanic struggle between the champion driver Dinesh Deheragoda, Arvinda Premadasa, Dan Dissanayake, Nalin D. Perera, Mushtaq Ahamed and the brilliance of Pradip Jayawardena who should explode into action like a tornado.

The other top drivers who should 'burn the tracks' in their respective events are Rohith and Thusith de Silva, Ravi Mayadunne, Kandan Parameswaran, A.A. Keerthi, Sumanapala and Madhushan Manapperuma, Dhammika Peiris, Dilshad Hamdoon, Nihal Premasiri, Sheran Fernando, Shirendra Lawrence, Javid Wahab, Israq Wahab, Devaka Amarasuriya, are expected to give out their best.

Dilantha Malagamuwa should hold sway in the events for two wheelers as he had always done in this track which has become his favourite hunting grounds.

The others who are expected to perform well are Susil Wanniarachchi, Jeffrey Buultjens, Mohammed Manaf, Rohan Buultjens, Madhuranga Caldera, Krishan Dias, Mohammed Irshan, Sanira Fernando, Ruwan Peiris, Prabath Peiris, Feroze Omar and many others. A total of 24 events will be worked off (12 each - mobikes and motor cars). Around 180 entries have been received of which more than 100 will be cars.
