World Hindu parley will usher in peace and prosperity

The Second World Hindu Conference which was inaugurated by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was attended by several foreign and local delegates from India, Nepal, Malaysia, Mauritius and several other countries.

This conference which was organised by the Minister of Hindu Religious Affairs Thiagarajah Maheswaran is indeed a timely, well deserved and magnanimous gesture on the part of the whole community and he deserves credit for his dedicated effort in inviting great scholars, historians, researchers, artistes and world renowned poets and writers.

Indeed, the Hindus from time immemorial were told to govern their lives by the norms of dhamma. Dhamma ordains a person to observe certain rules of conduct vital for spiritual progress.

Whenever there is much unrighteousness in security and when irreligious and 'adharma' dominate, God makes His appearance. 'Avatara' is a descent of God for the ascent of man.

Even Swami Vivekananda once said that before flooding India with socialistic and political ideas, first deluge the land with spiritual ideas. He saw that a sound religion which satisfied the demands of realism and the needs of humanity can set right the world.

This World Hindu Conference, the largest ever to be held in Sri Lanka with the co-operation and support of the President and Prime Minister, Ministers and Members of Parliament, will undoubtedly usher in everlasting peace and eternal prosperity. This conference will be held for five days in Colombo with the final session on May 6 at Nuwara Eliya. The Minister for Housing and Estate Infrastructure Arumugam Thondaman has made elaborate arrangements to hold it on a grand scale.

On May 4 (Sunday), there will be women's conferences and on May 5 a saiva conference.

The youth conference will be held on May 4 morning at the New Kathiresan Hall attended by more than 12,000.

There will be cultural programmes on May 4 at the Galle Face with the participation of reputed artistes and musicians from India and Sri Lanka as well.

This conference will be held upto May 10 in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
