ANCL donates Rs. 10 million : Rain blocks pm's visit to Lankagama

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was reluctantly compelled to call off his visit to the Lankagama Junior School and the Poddana Mediripititya Village due to bad weather, yesterday morning, as the helicopter in which he was travelling could not land in Lankagama. The PM was to inaugurate the reconstruction activities of the school and the village, devastated by the recent floods. However, he instructed the officials to go ahead with the activities as scheduled.

Minister Vajira Abyewardena, Ravidra Samaraweera, Chief Minister Southern province H. G. Sirisena and Deputy Minister Sagala Ratnayaka were also expected to attend the inaugural ceremony.

On a directive of Prime Minister and in collaboration with central government and provincial council, the Lankagama Junior School is being reconstructed as a modern model school. The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. has donated Rs. 10 million for the school.
