President, P.M pow-wow on current impasse President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had a two-hour meeting on Friday and discussed a range of vital issues including the current impasse of the peace talks and the interim administration for the North and the East. The Prime Minister giving his views on an interim administration for the North and the East had stated that the Government had not yet finalised the proposals, intended to be forwarded to the LATE, a press release from the Presidential Secretariat said. The two leaders had a lengthy discussion on the deteriorating law and order situation and on the narcotic menace and agreed to take immediate measures to arrest the situation and give more muscle to the security. At the meeting it was decided that the President and the Prime Minister, with one or two others and relevant law enforcement and security agencies would meet at least once a month to review the law and order situation and take necessary action. |
