UNP Exco: PM to spell out radical reforms

by Don Asoka Wijewardena

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to announce some far reaching and radical reforms to ensure proper utilisation of public funds and better performance of politicians at the UNP Executive Committee meeting scheduled to be held in Embilipitiya next month.

The reforms, according to UNP General Secretary Senerath Kapukotuwa include the appointment of 'Independent Observation Committees' comprising members of the opposition parties in each electorate to overlook proper and systematic utilisation of public funds and special committees to monitor and evaluate the performance of politicians in their respective electorates.

Kapukotuwa also told the "Sunday Observer" that the Prime Minister would enlighten all UNP party members about the government's future plan to accelerate overall development in all sectors with the participation of opposition parties, and a blend

of both public and private sector. He said that PM would introduce the future vision of the government from 2003 to 2006 setting priorities to effectively use foreign aid, developing policies in dealing with human resources and requesting representatives of the public to perform their duties, especially for the promotion of lasting peace in the country.
