Yachting at Bolgoda Lake today

Over fifty yachtsmen will vie for championship honours at the Navy Challenge Cup and Junior National Sailing Regatta conducted by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka to be staged at the Bolgoda Lake, commencing 11.30 a.m. today (Sunday, June 22).

Sailors from Yacht Clubs affiliated to Yachting Association of Sri Lanka will be seen in action at the Navy Challenge Cup Sailing.

Parallel to this event Junior Sailing Regatta for those under 23 and sub-Junior Sailing Regatta for those under-15 years will also be held.

Sarath Kuragama, the administrative Manager, Yachting Association of Sri Lanka said that all participants are requested to be present at the Colombo Motor Yacht Club by 10.30 a.m. The registration will be at 11.00 a.m. The order of events is as follows: 11.30 a.m. - Junior Nationals -Single fleet race, crews must be carried - Helm and Crew must be under-23 years of age. At 12.00 noon Sub Junior Nationals - Single Race for Optimists - Helm must be under 15 years or under. The main event at 12.30 p.m. - Navy Challenge Cup - two fleet races, back to back, no personal handicap.

There will be medals, certificates and trophies for the winners. The event is sponsored by The Soar Technologies Limited.

Roshan Gunathileke, the Chairman Soar Group of Companies, Welisara will be the chief guest while Rear Admiral Nandana Thuduwewatta, Cmr. North will be the guest of honour. (L.F.)
