Lighthouse Hotel : beacon in the South

by BEVERLEY JANSZ

Simple yet elegant, peaceful and tranquil. This is the difference that Lighthouse Hotel, Galle one of the flagship hotels of the Jetwing family, offers.

Beach view of Lighthouse Hotel.

The waters of the Indian Ocean lap at the very doors of the Lighthouse Hotel set right on the coast in the southwest corner of Sri Lanka. The sea waters fill the new rock-cut pool and provide wide blue vistas from the terraces, the bedrooms and the dining room. From the lawns beside the main pool, sea and pool seem to merge indefinitely, mirroring the palm trees that surround the hotel.

The warmth of the staff, great cuisine and the elegance and class are something one should experience personally. The hotel is a perfect example of where history blends with the present and offers a most memorable experience.

Step into the cool entrance hall and your eye is drawn to the spiral staircase and its sculptured metalwork balustrade an amazing work of art depicting horsemen in battle - an age old tale, and a scene that seems to belie the hospitality and comforts that Lighthouse offers. The stairway of the hotel is a masterpiece of art. The Portuguese landing at Galle is re-enacted in brass and bronze of the railing. The unique stairway of the hotel unveils one of the greatest stories of history while preserving the 'old world charm' blending it with the modern elegance, conceived by the renowned architect, Geoffrey Bawa.

The latest addition to Lighthouse Hotel is a Serena Spa, said to be the first International Spa in Sri Lanka which has been opened in co-operation with Serena Spa, which operates more than 20 Spas in this region. The Spa is located next to the full size swimming pool in a quiet corner of the vast garden of the hotel. In keeping with the beautiful architecture of Lighthouse Hotel, the Spa has been designed to facilitate splendid views of the ocean and the lush surrounding vegetation. It offers guests a relaxing and pampering atmosphere ensuring an unsurpassed experience for a stressed body and mind, Director, Marketing, Jetwing Hotels, Lalin de Mel said.

Whether fine dining or signature dining, wonders of culinary experience can be savoured at the Cinnamon Room. The Cardamon Cafe of the Anchor Bar and Grill. If you need to gain insights in the rich Sri lankan culture, sip a drink at The Coasts of Arms Bar and Terrace where 18th century batik paintings design the entire ceiling of the main bar, another reminder of the rich heritage.Lighthouse Hotel joined the Small Luxury Hotels of the World in 1999 and has continued to be a member of this exclusive club of hotels worldwide which aims at giving the guest an ultimate holiday experience.

From great rooms to excellent food and beverage, from personalised service to sports and recreation, from day outings and eco-tour excursions to the simple aspect of relaxation in peace and quiet with beautiful views of the palm fringed beaches.

Opening of Miami pool at Club Hotel Dolphin

A dash of the emerald city of Oz and the splash of wizardry of an architect flashes as the shining green waters of the new Miami swimming pool at Club Hotel Dolphin in Waikkal ripples placidly. guests imbibe gleefully and peck readily at their pick on offer by Serendib Leisure Management . The Sun had dipped into the sea and a cool breeze fanned rising spirits to usher serendipity and leisure at this much anticipated opening of the new pool.

Miami - the seaside resort in the 'Sunshine State' of Florida in US is sure to have charm of its own. The new Miami pool at Club Hotel Dolphin distinctive in shape and size just 20 minutes away from the airport is sure to enhance the popularity of this predominantly 'all inclusive' club hotel.

Moving out of the big city one finds that the unsightly sandbagged checkpoints and the unsettling risking and questioning of people that harmed tourist promotion is no more. An uninterrupted drive on black macadam ends almost abruptly minutes after one crosses the 'Deduru' north of Negombo and the slow approach on a red earth road alerts one to the arrival in roof tile country that is Waikkal and the precincts of the hotel. Betel, Frangipani and a smile usher you in.

While the management of Serendib Leisure is on the ball on tourists' call the Sales and Marketing team push to realise their dream targets ensuring comfort and fun.L.E.
