Interim Administration proposals Thamilselvan to meet Bala in Berlin by Ananth Palakidnar The LTTE political wing leader Suppiah Paramu Thamilselvan will take the Government's proposals on the North-East Interim Council to Berlin , for consultations with Dr. Anton Balasingham in the second week of August informed sources said. Fresh proposals for an interim administration presented to the LTTE through Norway's special envoy Jon Westborg. The second phase of the discussions and the consultations will take place in Berlin. A team of legal and political experts led by Dr. Anton Balasingham and comprising Dr. Viswanathan Rudrakumar one of the negotiators of the LTTE are expected to participate in the discussion. According to sources, the LTTE is likely to come out with its own suggestions to be included in the proposals after an elaborate discussions in Berlin. The LTTE's overall response to the proposals is expected to be revealed to the Government through the Norwegian facilitators in mid August. Berlin was selected as the venue for the discussion by the LTTE owing to the health condition of Dr. Anton Balasingham, and because Germany has not banned the organisation, sources said. Batticaloa district Parliamentarian of the Tamil National Alliance Joseph Pararajasingham told the Sunday Observer that it was meaningless to expect a speedy response from the LTTE with regard to the Government's proposals. "It is important to note that the Government did not just submit its proposals to the LTTE. It did after consultations in the United Kingdom and again with legal and the constitutional experts in Colombo. Therefore, the LTTE will also have its own team of people to discuss and consult on the proposals. I am certain that the LTTE is not going to reject the proposals outright and they will come up with their suggestions to upgrade it for further discussions," Joseph Pararajasingham said. Meanwhile, WestBorg will leave for Norway tomorrow. |
