Hotel concessions for media personnel to boost tourism by Don Asoka Wijewardena The Ceylon Hotels Corporation in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism with a view to promoting local tourism has offered media personnel attractive concessions on accommodation, food and beverages, at selected hotels throughout the country. The concessions include a 25 per cent discount on accommodation, 20 per cent on food and 15 per cent on beverage (except beer). Ceylon Hotels Corporation Chairman,Bodhi Ranasinghe, told the "Sunday Observer" that concessionary rates to media personnel was vital as responsible journalism was essential to keep people well informed on all aspects concerning their interests over which they had to take decisions. He said that the idea to grant concessionary rates was mooted by Minister of Tourism, Gamini Lokuge, who had been striving to improve both tourist and hotel industries since he was appointed as Minister of Tourism. Ceylon Hotels Corporation General Manager, Sahinda Wegodapola, said that concessionary rates for media personnel had been granted at its outlets in appreciation of their contributions to resuscitate the hotel and tourist industries following a sharp decline in tourist arrivals consequent to the terrorist attack on Katunayake airport, about two years ago. According to the Ceylon Hotels Corporation Senior Marketing and Sales Manager, Ranjith Balasuriya, the concessionary rates are available at Bay Inn (Weligama), Belihuloya Rest House, Dambulla Rest House, Grand Ella Motel (Ella), Kithulgala Rest House, Hotel Seruwa (Polonnaruwa), Sigiriya Rest House, Hotel Mihintale, Kotmale Resort, Tissamaharama Resort and Nivahana (Nuwara Eliya). |
