Top honours for Young Asia TV
Young Asia Television (YA *TV) took top honours at the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development Awards 2003 for the best television Spot in the Campaign against HIV/AIDS. The Award was presented at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) General Conference held in New Delhi, India in July. YA*TV's Managing Director Hilmy Ahamed was present to accept the award from Indian Minister for Information and Broadcasting, the Hon. Ravi Shankar Prasad. "STOP THE VIRUS! - (No Second Chance)" was the title of the music video that snatched the top honours for Young Asia Television. Written, directed and produced entirely in-house by YA*TV - the music video featured the talent of young Sri Lankan rappers Urban Sounds. Gajang Maheson was just 20 when he penned the lyrics of the song, and he also went on to provide the lead vocals on the track. The music video is targeted specifically at young people and aims to educate them and increase awareness on HIV/AIDS through entertainment. Drawing attention to the issue of HIV/AIDS is one of YA*TV's highest priorities. From music videos to short video reports on People Living With HIV/AIDS and community initiatives to combat its spread, YA*TV has made it clear that HIV/AIDS is neither a Western problem nor one that is limited to certain sections of society. Challenging misconceptions, dispelling fear, creating awareness on the importance of safe sexual practices, and most importantly, educating youth are very much a part of YA*TV's mission. |
