PM at Talawila

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will visit the Talawila Shrine today to participate at the annual feast of St. Anne, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The solemn festival high mass will be offered at 7.00 a.m. and the statue of St. Anne will be taken in procession, after the Morning Service. E.W

Japanese Minister arrives today

The Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Tetsuo Yano will arrive on a three day official visit to Sri Lanka today and leave for Jaffna on the same day, to inspect a camp site of internally displaced civilians at Inuvil and a resettlement site at Colombuthurai in the Peninsula.

On his return to Colombo Yano will meet government officials and diplomats, discuss on the current political situation.

Sadaham Charikawa

"Sadaham Charikawa", a spiritual journey in the name of peace, reconciliation and healing of wounds inflicted by twenty-year war will begin on Auguast 8, from Fatima Church, Colombo 10 at 8.00 a.m. and the statue of 'Our Lady of Madhu' will be taken in pilgrimage to Piramanalankulam, a newly established turn of point on the Vavuniya-Mannar Road leading to the Madhu Shrine, where it will be deposited in a specially erected shrine.

Annual Nallur festival commences

The annual festival of the Nallur Kanthaswamy temple will begin with a flag-hoisting ceremony in Jaffna today.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the temple management along with the Government agent and the police to attend to the welfare of several thousands of devotees who are expected to throng at the temple from various parts of Sri Lanka and overseas.The festival season will continue for more than three weeks and will include the spectacular chariot and water-cutting festivals at the end of the month. Business visas liberalised

India has agreed to liberalise business visa application procedures under the Free Trade Agreement. According to the agreement, businessmen planning to visit India can obtain their visas, by producing a letter issued by the business chambers of the government and will not be required to make personal appearances. Kandy perahera begins

The annual Kandy Esala Perahera got underway yesterday with its first procession, the Kumbal Perahera and will continue till August 12.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Diyawadena Nilame of the Kandy Dalada Maligawa Neranjan Wijeratne along with the Deputy Inspector General and the Mayor of Kandy to ensure proper security and other facilities to accommodate the foreign and the local tourists.
