Binns praises activities of SCATS

A delegation of the Sri Lankan Study Centre for the Advancement of Technology and Science and Social Welfare (SCATS) met the High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka David Binns to brief him of the activities of SCATS for the last ten years with the active participation of the Sri Lankan community in Australia, Gamini Perera founder president of SCATS presented a copy of the tenth anniversary publication and video recording of activities contributing to the social welfare of the needy people of Sri Lanka.

Some of the SCATS activities include donation of computers to children in difficult areas, foster parent scheme where the Australian community contributes directly to the needy children for their education and helping victims of the recent floods. Rev. Professor Bellanvila Wimalaratana Nayaka Thera who headed the delegation emphasised the contributions made by SCATS in association with the Bellanvila Community Development Foundation for the benefit of the community. He said that SCATS had contributed around Aus $ 3100 for the re-building of a school damaged by floods.

Vasantha Jayasinghe, Secretary SCATS-Sri Lanka pointed out that the participation of the High Commissioner in all major activities of SCATS especially in the opening of the international study centre and the donation of equipment to Lady Ridgeway hospital was indeed a source of strength to the centre.

David Binns said he was extremely happy to be associated with the humanitarian activities carried out by the Sri Lankan community in Australia in association with the Sri Lankan sector and pledged his full co-operation in all their future activities.
