Three digit area code for Colombo, Kandy and Galle

Colombo, Kandy and Galle moved to a three digit area code as from October 18 in accordance with the 10th digit numbering plan implemented by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka. Colombo, Kandy and Galle has an additional digit '1' added to each respective area code.

With this change all calls made from outside Colombo, Kandy and Galle including calls made from overseas needs to dial 011, 081 and 091 respectively.

Calls made from any mobile phone and WLL phone, i.e. Lanka Bell and Suntel, will now have to dial 011 for a number in Colombo, 081 for a number in Kandy and 091 for a number in Galle.

All pre-programmed numbers, fax lines and PABX's will now have to be re-programmed to include the additional digit one through the area codes of Colombo, Kandy and Galle.
