'Deepaloka' brightens Jaffna peninsula by Elmo Leonard Seventy-percent of households in the Jaffna peninsula, now have access to electricity, following the commissioning early this month of 11 electricity projects in the northern district, funded through government expenditure of Rs 1 billion. Ten of these electricity projects have been built in Chavakachcheri and one in Vadamarachchi, all with local CEB _ Ceylon Electricity Board, expertise. Hitherto, the war-torn northern district, with less than 20 per cent of households in access to electricity, had the lowest rate of electrification in the country, a spokesman for the Ministry of Power and Energy said.
