Debutants Capital AEI get bigger win - beating Capital Alliance 62/0

Capital AEI who were making their debut in the Mercantile Rugby 7's registered the biggest win yesterday at Royal College grounds beating Capital Alliance 62-0, while Lanka Equities 'A' too had a big 61-0 win over Pan Asia Bank on the same grounds with Harcourts recording the biggest win (56-0) over Asian Alliance at Longden Place.

This 33rd edition is being sponsored by Dialog GSM. Defending Cup category champions Hatton National Bank 'A' remained unbeaten in their group games beating Asian Alliance 54-0, Harcourts 42-5 and Lanka Bell 45-0, while Amana Group, too won all their group games beating Hatton National Bank 'B' 40-0, Colombo Hilton 41-0 and LOLC 47-0.

Also at Longden Place, the other big wins were by Aitken Spence beating Commercial Bank 41-0, Seylan Bank also beating Commercial Bank 42-0 and beating Emercheme 41-5.

On the Royal College grounds, Capital AEI trounced Capital Alliance 62-0, while the other big wins were by Sampath Bank 'A' beating Mercantile Merchant Bank 57-0, Lanka Equities 'A' beating Sampath Bank 'A' 50-0 and Hemas 47-0, Srilankan Airlines beating Capital Alliance 42-0, John Keells Holdings beating Lanka Equities 'B' 43-0 Sampath Bank 'A' beating Bartleets 41-0, T. A. Logistics beating Lanka Equities 'B' 41-0, Tri-Star beating Bartleets 40-0, Hemas beating Pan Asia Bank 44-0, Lanka Equities 'A' beating Metropolitan 45-0. Srilankan Airlines managed to enter the Cup category after their close 14-0 win over Capital AEI - this was after they were held to a 12-all draw by Hoodvian.

Ceylon Tobacco Company after entering, failed to take the field.

The quarter-finals of the Cup category to be staged today at Longden Place from 10 am is as follows:- Hatton National Bank 'A'vs Aitken Spence, Ceylinco vs Amana Group, Sri Lankan Airlines vs Lanka Equities 'A' and John Keells vs Sampath Bank 'A'.

The pre "quarters" of the Bowl category starts at 8.30 am. and those who have entered are - Harcourts, Lanka Bell, Seylan Bank. 'B' Hong Kong Bank, Forbes and Walker, Brandix, Hatton National Bank 'B', Colombo Hilton, Capital AEI, Hoodvian, Metropolitan, T. A. Logistics, Lanka Equities 'B', Tri-Star and Mercantile Merchant Bank.
