Local company to manufacture disposable paper cups by Gamini Rupananda, Colombo South Group Correspondent Starline Enterprises, Ratmalana, which has been manufacturing disposable plastic packages for the past two decades, has started a new project to manufacture disposable paper cups. In the first phase of the project, the company intends to manufacture drinking cups made out of paper in four different sizes _ 150ml, 200ml, 250ml and 330ml. In the second phase, the product range will be extended to cover several new packages including plates and bowls and to increase production capacity of disposable drinking cups. The first phase of the project was launched recently at the new factory. "The products will be in the market in a few days," said Thilak Bharethi, Manager Starline Enterprises. Large volumes of paper cups are presently being imported to the country. When we get going with normal production levels, we would be able to ensure that imports are stopped to a great extent, saving a large volume of foreign exchange. Our quality will be on par with international standards." "Paper cups would be more expensive than plastic cups, since paper raw material is costlier. It is more an up market product", explained Bharethi. Starline Enterprises supplies most of the packaging requirements of almost all top-level restaurants in the country. |
