Transport 2003, The story of success

The Transport 2003 Exhibition which is the only transport exhibition in the South Asian region was held for the seventh time at BMICH on October 23 to 25 on national Transport Day.

The event was organised by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Sri Lanka in association with the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation.

Sri Lanka Ports authority, David Peiris Motor Company and Union Assurance Ltd. played a vital role as main sponsors and Lanka Indian Oil Company joined their hands with the exhibition as a co-sponsor. Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, ABC Radio Networks and Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited was the official media sponsors.

The exhibition also assembled some co-events which were highly appreciated by the audience. Namely the Motor Show by David Peiris Motor Company Vintage Vehicle Parade done by Vintage Car Owners Association and the Road Safety Show organised by the Police Motor Traffic Department.

National Transport Day was organised by the Charted Institute of Logistics and Transport in Sri Lanka and Schoolchildren from Jaffna, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Matara, Galle and Colombo were brought down to attend The National Transport Day and were fully sponsored by CILT.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Sri Lanka organised the transport conference under the theme of "Linking South Asia to the Global Logistics Chain" Transport awards were also given on the transport day under the patronage of Hon. Thilak Marapana, Minister of Transport, Highways and Civil Aviation. The award for the Best Company in the Transport Business was won by Ebert Silva Tour Company and the second place was won by V. V. Karunaratne & Company. The awards for Best Transport Research Project and Best Innovation in Transport was won by Moratuwa University.

As the exhibition opened new avenues for the transport related companies, the organisers are optimistic that they would get much more encouraging response from the organisations for the Transport 2004.

Transport 2003 is another event successfully managed by Design Events (Pvt.) Ltd, a corporate event management company endorsed by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau as a Professional Exhibition Organiser (PEO).
