Call to resolve political crisis Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka has appealed to the President, the Prime Minister and other leaders of political parties to seriously consider an immediate resolution to the current political crisis in the country and to make every effort to explore the possibility of a government of consensus. Archbishop Oswald Gomis, President Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka, and Bishop Marius Peiris, Secretary-General of the Conference, in a joint statement have also warned of disastrous consequences on the whole country and the people irrespective of community, religion, caste or creed they belong to. The statement further states that the people of this country are divided more or less equally in their loyalty to the two major groups in power. "This is clearly evident from the results of the elections conducted in the recent past. Hence, the two major political parties should join hands for the sake of peace and the welfare of the people". |
