Rain ruins England vs President's XI match

by DILWIN MENDIS, Moratuwa Sports Corr..... The limited-over cricket match between Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI and visiting England team which was the first game of the English tour ended in a 'no-decision' at De Soysa Stadium Moratuwa yesterday. The match was restricted to 38 overs due to overnight rain.

England won the toss and elected to bat made 237 for 8 wickets, with Blackenwell making 63 and A. Strauss, the top score of 83.

Ranjith and Ganegama had 2 wickets each.

M. Vandort and S. Jayantha opened for SLCP XI and put on 63 runs for the first wicket with Jayantha contributing 24 runs with two fours and one six. Play stopped at 4.45 p.m. due to rain with homesters 76 for 1 in 17.1 overs. Vandort batted cautiously and was unbeaten with 39 runs with five fours in 78 minutes.
