Trinity take up golf

Trinity College, Kandy, has taken to golf and it will be a new event in their sports calendar in the future. Trinity thus becomes the second school in Sri Lanka to encourage their students to play this prestigious game that is shunned aside by many as a sport restricted only to the elite and those in retirement.

The first school to be engaged in gold was the CIS, Kandy.

Schools showing interest in this game, which is the second biggest money spinner in the world sports scene, next only to Formula One Racing is the result of a move initiated by the Victoria Golf Club, in Digana, Kandy to popularise the game, especially among schools.

The Director/CEO of the Victoria Golf and Country Resort Priath Fernando, well supported by staff members, Director General Manager, Tony Witham, Secretary, Jennine Weeratunga, Marketing Co-ordinator, Lalindra Ranaweera are determined to popularise this game in Sri Lanka and they are willing to offer all assistance at Victoria for those who are eager to play golf.

Approximately 40 Trinitians experienced the thrill and excitement of playing golf at Victoria - one of the 100 most beautiful golf courses in the world, designed by famous gold architect, Donald Steel, last Friday, when they commenced their training under the professional golfer, Ajith Nishantha, popularly known as 'Sumith'.

In addition to the coach, Victoria also will provide the golf material. Victoria plans to conduct golf tournaments for schools in the very near future.
