Sri Lanka prepares for women's Singer Asia Cup cricket triangular

Sri Lanka has picked a pool of 26 players from whom the final 14 girls will be picked in February next year for the Tri-nation Singer-Asia Cup women's cricket tournament.

The other two countries that will participate are India and Pakistan. For Sri Lanka and India it will be a testing time before the World Cup 2005 as both countries have already qualified to play in the World Cup while Pakistan has failed to qualify.

According to Mrs. Gwen Herat - President Women's Cricket Association of Sri Lanka, seven one-day internationals will be played in Colombo and one in Kandy.

Singer - Sri Lanka are the official sponsors for the tourney.

The women's cricket pool: Randika Galhenege, Andrew Vithanage, Indika Kankanamage, Dona Indralatha, Deepika Rasangani, Preethika Ranaweera, Enoka Galagedera, R.A. Chamali, Janakanthi Mala, Deepasika Perera, D. Sanjeewani, Dedunu de Silva, Chamari Sarojika, Hirika Fernando, Chamani Seneviratne, Anusha Wijewardena, Thanuja Ekanayake, Rose Fernando, Gayathi Kariyawasam, Thilaka Gunaratnem K.M. Indrani, Sumudu Fernando, Shashikala Siriwardena, Inosha Dilrukshi, Sandamali Dolawtte, Vajira Premaratne, Seepthi Gunaratne - Tour Manager.

Tri-nation tourney dates:

17.4.2004: India vs Sri Lanka at SSC grounds, 19.4.2004: India vs Pakistan at SSC grounds,

21.4.2004: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan at SSC grounds, 23.4.2004: Sri Lanka vs India at SSC grounds, 25.4.2004: India vs Pakistan in Kandy, 27.4.2004: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan at SSC grounds.

The final is scheduled for April 29 either at SSC grounds or day/night game at Premadasa Stadium at Khettarama.

The Sri Lankan girls will start practices in January and final 14 will be named in February.

Arrangements are also being made to have live telecast of the matches and this will be the first occasion that women's cricket will be telecast.
