Past cricketers donate cricket materials to St. Anthony's Wattala Past cricketers of St. Anthony's College, Wattala donated cricket materials to their old school at a function held at the school premises recently. Elvis Koelmeyer - a past student of the school and no mean cricketer thanked all those who contributed lavishly in helping the school tide over difficult times and keeping the game alive at the school in giving the present day cricketers all the facilities to further their interest in the game. Speaking about the past, Koelmeyer said that the school produced two national cricketers, two schoolboy cricketers in the Observer-Bata Contest and other sectional award winners. He, however observed that of late the standard of cricket had declined and hoped that the high standard of the past will be achieved with dedication and devotion towards the game. The present team is playing in the 'C' division of the tournament but hoped that all concerned will apply themselves diligently towards the game and raise the standard so that they will be classified to the 'B' division before long. School principal Mr. Malcolm Perera and former stalwart Noel Jansz who also addressed the gathering thanked the past cricketers and the organising committee for taking a great deal of interest in the activities of the college in order to raise the standard of cricket. |
