Elaborate plans are been made to conduct The Defence Services Sports Festival and Colours Award Ceremony from November 26 to 28 at the Sugathadasa Indoor and Outdoor Stadiums.

The armed forces are keen in getting maximum spectator interest in the three day festival with twenty sporting disciplines scheduled to get under way.

The festival will begin on November 26 at 9 am with a Para jumping show, march past, lighting of the Olympic Flame, and a band display.

At a press briefing held at the Air Force Headquarters at Parsons Road with regard to the festival Air Marshal Donald Perera who is the President of the Defence Services Sports Board said that since year 2000 where a peaceful atmosphere prevailed in the country they were in a position to hold the festival. He said that around 450 servicemen will be receiving colours for the years 2000, 2001 and 2002. Among them are two female boxers from the Sri Lanka Army.

Some final events have already been completed while some more intersting final events like volleyball, rugger, badminton, judo, karate, wrestling, boxing are to be worked out during the three days. (R.A.)
