Conrad and Arun will bolster the prospects of Sri Lanka

Two of the leading swimmers - butterfly stroker Conrad Francis and backstroker Arun Karunaratne who have represented Sri Lanka at several international swimming meets and presently training in Australia will be included in the Sri Lanka squad for the South Asian Federation Games (SAF Games) to be staged in Islamabad, Pakistan in February 2004. The inclusion of these two swimmers will bolster the chances of the Lankans at the Games.

Conrad who won 'double' gold medals in Macao China in August this year will swim in his first meet in Australia on November 16 and 17 at the Albury North-Lavington Meet. He will be swimming for Nunawading Swimming Club, Forest Hill, Victoria. Conrad is coached by Mark Thompson one of the leading Australian swimming coaches.

Meanwhile Arun who holds the Sri Lanka and National Record in the 200 metres back stroke in 2.04.53 secs and 2.20.07 secs respectively, is also training hard in Melbourne. Arun is coached by Ian Popoe Australian National backstroke coach.

The National Aquatic Sports Union of Sri Lnaka (formerly known as NAASU) will hold the final trial to pick swimmers for the SAF Games pool shortly at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool. According to National swimming coach E. G. A. Wilson, the swimmers who fared well at the recently concluded National Swimming Championships will be selected to the pool.

The swimmers likely to be included to the training 'pool' are:
