Cutting out the glare by Pelham Juriansz Polaroid, which invented polarized sunglass lens technology, was introduced to the local market recently by Baurs Optics, a division of A. Baur and Co. Ltd. Baurs Optics is the official distributor for Polaroid in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. According to Dr Werner Bockelmann, a specialist in optics from Frankfurt, Germany, who is closely monitoring developments related to safety and traffic, the major advantage of polarised glasses is eliminating glare. Glare causes an average of five traffic accidents per month in Zurich, Switzerland. To counter this, the BFU Organisation of Switzerland (a reputable institute which researches driving safety) actively promotes wearing high-quality polarized sunglasses, and has endorsed Polaroid as the premier polarizing sunglasses on the market. Polarized sunglasses eliminate 100 per cent of blinding glare and the demand for them has been increasing. Since its founding in 1937, Polaroid has become a world leader in optics and lens technology. Its sunglasses have met and exceeded the European Sunglass Standard EN 1836 and the EEC Directive 89/686. All Polaroid lenses are manufactured to block 100 per cent of harmful UVA, UVB and UVC rays up to 400nm. From contemporary and ultra-trendy to elegant classics, the 2004 collection features a sunglass selection tailored to consumers with functionality as fashion. All styles include original Polaroid polarizing lens technology for full protection against blinding glare and 100 per cent protection against harmful Ultra Violet (UV) light. |
