tAgg - a new refreshing outfit

A new aggregation in town is tAgg an acoustic quartet, of dedicated young musicians who launched their group at an exclusive event held on November 2 at the Aqua Pearl Resort, Moratuwa.

The chief guest was Asoka Handagama. At the launch tAgg released four originals of theirs 'Senahasa', 'Find Me Someone New', 'All My Life' and 'Uni-life'.

Meeting up with the members Gayan (Nishad), Thandula, Gayan and Anurhada was quite an interesting and illuminating experience. They claim they are an artistic outfit, every creation and performance of theirs is done in the name of art.

They are not commercial entertainers but a group of musicians who are dedicated to the four elements Love, Spirituality, Sacrifice and Joy and these they say are reflected in their music. "Our audience would be people who are extremely sensitive to music and art. Certainly not teenagers who would want some wild experience out of a 'night club.'

Therefore let's say we cater for all the 'Ladies and Gentlemen," voice the foursome. tAgg's music is adult contemporary, golden oldies, rock alternatives (acoustic versions) and light jazz.

With their wide repertoire in these categories tAgg hope to hit the Colombo circuit soon, which really needs groups that are not hell-bent on crashing guitars and screaming vocals. What is remarkable about this new outfit is that two of them are post graduate students of the University of Moratuwa with a mature and clinical approach to and assessment of life.

Gayan (Nishad) a past student of Royal College and a post graduate in civil engineering is a pianist who started composing at the young age of fourteen years has twenty five songs for 'future investment'. According to his colleagues he is known to be the best saxophonist in the history of the Royal College cadet band. A multi instrumentalist he plays guitar as well. Tandula a past student of Rahula College and a post graduate in architecture plays acoustic guitar and bass, and is a fine vocalist.

Gayan who is a product of Royal College is fondly termed 'the Jim Reeves' in the group, plays guitar, is very much into the oldies and as he proudly claims is a massive album collector, with records stacked up from the floor of his room to almost the ceiling! Anurhada is the fourth member of the team - a guitarist and a harmonica player an outstanding vocalist and as the boys say 'a wonderful guitar player.'

Like Thandula he is a product of Rahula College, Matara, and an enthusiastic member of the band. tAgg pride themselves to be a new wave in the music industry, an artistic outfit performing in the name of Art. Be sure to catch their performance.
