Eid-ul-Fitr messages

Imthiyaz Bakeer Markar, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications

"And (Allah desireth) that ye should complete the period (of Fasting), and that ye should magnify Allah (saying Allahu Akbar) for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful" (Al-Qur'an, S. Baqarah: 185)

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shaw'waal, at the completion of Ramadhan. Shaw'waal is the 10th month of the Islamic calendar. The Eid-ul-Fitr is a very joyous day; it is a true Thanksgiving Day for the believing men and women, on this day Muslims show their real joy for the health, strength and the opportunities of life, which Allah has given to them to fulfil their obligation of fasting and other good deeds during the blessed month of Ramadan.

This year's Eid-ul-Fitr arrives at a crucial time for our country as a whole and for Muslims in particular. The prospects of a lasting peace are very real, and it is only achievable if we are willing to persevere with the peace process. The obstacles that lie ahead should be addressed in a just manner, because only with justice to all parties comes lasting peace.

As Allah Almighty says: "O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah is witness to fair dealings and let not the hatred of others to you, swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just, that is next to piety, Fear Allah, indeed Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do." (Al-Qur'an, Al-Ma'dah:8)

I wish all a blessed Eid and may your deeds in Ramadhan be accepted!

Alhaj A. H. M. Azwer, MP, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs

Alhamdulillah, we have witnessed the completion of another successful holy month of Ramadhan, which culminates in the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

Almighty Allah has gifted this Holy month as with His infinite Mercy and Wisdom, so that we may learn self-restrain and attain Takwa. This is attained by performing various rituals such as devoting more time for prayers, abstaining from food and other worldly desires purely, for seeking His pleasure. They are indeed virtuous acts of the highest order and train the individuals to face uncertainties and calamities, which are the order of the day with patience and perseverance.

The past year has been a trying time for us. When we were beginning to heave a sigh of relief with the return to normalcy in life in the bulk of the country and, when there was an air of optimism on everlasting peace for all of us, suddenly a dark cloud of uncertainty has loomed over prompting the people to press the panic button. However, be assured that the best solution to face these uncertainties is to exercise forbearance and to seek the protection of Almighty Allah, for the Holy Qur'an informs that He will test us with many trials and tribulations but glad tidings for those who are being patient.

As we learnt in the month of Ramadhan, moral and spiritual uplift the spirit of charitable deeds, feeling for the fellow human being as for oneself should take pride of place in our thoughts and actions. Real success in this world and in the hereafter comes from this.

So, let the spirit of Ramadhan continue throughout the year. May Almighty Allah accept our good deeds and forgive our sins. On this most joyful of occasions, I wish all of you a happy Eid-ul-Fitr.
