Hounsfield-evolution and change of name

From January 2004, UK based Hounsfield Test Equipment will operate under the name of American parent, Tinius Olsen. The change will simplify presentation of the companies impressive portfolio of products and support the continuous programme of improvements in products and overall quality achieved by Hounsfield in recent years.

Since 1996 Hounsfield became fully part of the Tinius Olsen Group and have worked very successfully together in many areas and on numerous projects including the design and launch of the S and T series Tension/Compression Testing Machines, Test Software Qmat for light industrial applications and Navigator for metal testing. In addition through the combined effort and direct involvement of the technical people on ASTM, EN, ISO and BS Standards committee, have together developed numerous test methods covering hundreds of different and interesting materials and component tests.

The business of Materials Testing has changed dramatically since 1996. Customer expectations are higher than ever, understandably they demand technology which enhances their businesses, they expect, not only a quality product which delivers accurate repeatable results, but a product which is also stylish, easy to use and above all absolute value for money.

Thus, Tinius Olsen's initial focus will be on metals, polymers, textiles, packaging, medical and food markets.

This one-brand approach will enable Tinius Olsen to globally satisfy a much wider range of testing requirements across all industrial sectors and in particular provide a consistent high standard of expertise in materials testing to global customers, many of whom have manufacturing facilities in multiple countries.

Manufacturers supplying international markets will benefit from the improved feedback on standards and testing methods arising from close co-operation between Tinius Olsen engineers working with standards organisations in the USA and Europe, while single company approval by UKAS, A2LA and other related bodies world-wide will make Tinius Olsen calibration certificates valid in any country.

The new appointments bring Tinius Olsen Group product research and development team up to 11 personnel and the international sales and marketing team up to 13 personnel speaking 9 languages and operating from two time zones/sites, US and UK.

In Sri Lanka, Tinius Olsen is exclusively represented by A.T.A. (International) Limited.
