Emirates offers new packages for Dubai Shopping Festival

The Colombo office of Emirates has begun sales of travel plus accommodation packages for the ninth Dubai Shopping Festival, scheduled to be held from January 15 to February 15.

A range of competitively priced packages from Emirates Holidays, the leisure management division of the award-winning international airline, enables Sri Lankans to participate in one of the world's most spectacular shopping extravaganzas for as little as Rs. 48,000 upwards per person on a twin-sharing basis.

These packages include return air ticket, three nights accommodation in three to five star hotels on bed and breakfast basis, meet and assist services on arrival, return airport transfers, room tax and service charges.

They also provide an additional baggage allowance of 10 kilograms on the passenger's return or onward journey.

Twenty deluxe properties including five top-notch beach hotels are available through these packages, with accommodation starting at as little as US $ 30 per night per person twin-sharing.

Members of Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates, may also avail themselves of the prevailing double miles offer by booking travel to the DSF on-line via www.emirates.com/lk/ and booking accommodation at Emirates Holidays at the airline's Colombo office. "The DSF is the perfect opportunity to experience the remarkable transformation of Dubai into one of the world's most modern cities and pick up some amazing bargains," Emirates Area Manager, Sri Lanka & Maldives, Tissa Bibile, said. "The event grows in size and scope each year, and is one of the most spectacular family events in the region."

Emirates Sales Manager, Colombo, Devika Ellepola, added: "We expect a lot of interest this year, and urge travellers to book early as flights and hotels are filling up fast.

"A stop-over in Dubai for the DSF is also an exciting option for travellers to Europe and other onward points."

Fabulous daily raffles are one of the key attractions that make the Dubai Shopping Festival a must on every business or leisure traveller's itinerary. Winnings are so huge, they have been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records for the richest raffle draws. The world's largest order for Rolls Royce cars for example was placed by the DSF in 2000, when 31 cars were awarded through daily raffles.

Winnings at the 2002 DSF included 80 Lexus cars and 4X4s, 35 Nissan Petrol Super Safaris, and 40 kilograms of gold. One of its biggest attractions is the Global Village, which drew more than 3.1 million visitors last year.

Global Village 2004, at which 38 countries will be represented, will have more facilities and services than ever before. These will include post offices, telecommunications services (Etisalat), banks, exchange stores, information centres, hospitality tents and medical centres.

Other key attractions at the Dubai Shopping Festival in the past were festival fireworks, carpet oasis, Arabian Bedouin Lifestyle festival, Frozen World, Crocodile show, Dolphin show, 3D Cinema, Heritage and Diving Village activities, cable car rides and the Ayeed opera.

"The DSF's theme of 'One world, One family, One festival' reflects the belief that it has something to offer people of every culture, origin and age group.

"We would like to see more Sri Lankans participate in this spectacular event," Ms. Ellepola said. Award-winning Emirates operates 13 flights a week from Colombo to Dubai.
