Ramzi's birthday bash :

from wire curlers to web sites

Ramzi Rahman is today a name synonymous with hairdressing. Ramzi celebrates a significant milestone birthday today with a big bash at the Ceylon continental Hotel. The mega party will be graced by friends, patrons, well wishers and personalities from the worlds of fashion, design, cinema and showbiz. The birthday party will also be the occasion for the launch of a website at www.ramzirahman.com, to help spread the word about his salon. Ramzi has many plans afoot, and, like the special cocktail that's going to be served at the party, some will be surprises.

Ramzi's Hair and Beauty Salon has evolved over the years, making giant strides in the field of beauty. The gifted hairstylist and makeup artiste, has re-created ordinary hairstyles into elegant works of art for both walk-in customers and famous faces both in Sri Lanka as well as abroad for over 25 years.

As a hairstylist, qualified judge, professional dancer, and fashion guru, Ramzi has certainly come a long way from humble beginnings as a shy teenager who became fascinated with the art of hair designing while watching his grandmother work on his relatives, to setting up his own salon in 1974 with only two cane chairs and a few mirrors. Ramzi's ability of transforming great ideas into legendary achievements has established him as one of Sri Lanka's most talented hairstylists and makeup artistes.

Ramzi has experience and knowledge from well-known fashion schools like Morris Masterclass International, Vidal Sassoon, Wella, Complections International, Alan International, Pivot Point, Kimage Hairdressing School-Singapore, L'oreal and Toni and Guy.

Ramzi has provided hair and makeup services for fashion shows, films, television, pageants, and weddings. He travels widely judging various fashion events, while educating and inspiring future stylists and makeup artistes through his informative seminars. His clients include some of the world's prominent women such as President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Miss Universe 1997 Brook Lee, the first Mrs. World 1984 Rosy Senanayake, and Malini Fonseka. Ramzi has been a hair and beauty consultant to the President and her family for more than 26 years.

Looking towards the future, Ramzi has plans to diversify into areas that have not been explored before in Sri Lanka such as wedding planning, makeovers, body-painting, grooming services for individuals and corporate sessions for executives, as well as conducting additional seminars, training courses and workshops for aspiring future makeup artistes, hairstylists and judges.

In collaboration with Ramzi, the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) affiliated with the government of Sri Lanka and in conjunction with several professional hairstylists in the country, are presently working on the development of a comprehensive new study syllabus equipped with a skills development program to elevate hairdressing in Sri Lanka to an international level.

This curriculum, which is still in its development stage, will act as a guideline to ensure that certified quality standards are maintained, and will seek to bring recognition nationally and internationally. The syllabus will also facilitate examinations in a bid to make stylists academically and practically qualified.

In affiliation with SLAHAB, Ramzi has already conducted several informative seminars, workshops, training courses, demonstrations, and competitions in English and Sinhala with world renowned hair and beauty experts in hair colouring, cutting, perms, straightening, facials, makeup, skin care, body care, bridal dressing and maintenance of salon equipment.
