PM ready to back President's handling of Mou by Don Asoka Wijewardena Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is ready to support President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga if she takes on the implementation of the MoU between the Government and the LTTE that provides for the current ceasefire. This latest position taken by the UNF government was conveyed to the "Sunday Observer" by UNP Spokesman Gayantha Karunatilaka. The Prime Minister's position is that the President could either completely change the MoU, to amend the current MoU or maintain the MoU as it is, Mr. Karunatilaka said. UNP Spokesman also said that Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has earnestly requested President Kumaratunga to have negotiations with the Royal Norwegian government on the matters relating to the peace process which has been the focal point of donor nations as well as the international community. |
