JVP over PM's stand on truce accord: 'Bid to gain NGOs, world community sympathy' by Deepal Warnakulasuriya The JVP on Thursday, dismissed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's statement of withdrawing from the ceasefire agreement with the LTTE as yet another bid to gain the sympathy of NGOs and international community, and said that he would never pull out from the truce agreement with the LTTE. JVP Propaganda Secretary, Wimal Weerawansa, however warned the President not to takeover the responsibility of the ceasefire agreement, as it was not a penetrative and open document. He alleged that the so-called ceasefire agreement was prepared by the Prime Minister with the aim of dragging it on, till he became the executive President one day and to offer the North and East to the LTTE. Weerawansa said that the country practically did not see any ceasefire during the past two-year period, except a number of violations of the so-called agreement. Weerawansa said that LTTE military strength was weak in 2001, but the present government had made it strong by providing all infrastructure facilities. "Weapons were brought to the country, youth and children were provided military training by force, rival political members and supporters in the North and East were killed including over 40 Army informants in Colombo, during the last 20 months," Weerawansa alleged. |
