Krishnaswamy The North East Muslim Peace Assembly (NEMPA) which last week formed zonal peace committees, in co-ordination with the LTTE eastern leaders, to restore communal harmony in five violence-prone Eastern areas, would shortly meet the LTTE hierarchy in Wanni for detailed discussions on resettlement of the nearly 65,000 Muslims expelled from the Northern areas. Secretary General of NEMPA, M.M. Mohideen, told the "Sunday Observer" that they were now in the process of compiling details of land and property registration of the displaced northern Muslims and would meet the LTTE soon after the work was completed. LTTE delegation led by its Trincomalee military commander Col. Pathuman and Eastern political leader Thilak met the Muslim civil society delegation led by M.I.M. Mohideen and Ali Zahir Moulana, former MP and advisor to the PM on Eastern province, on December 30, NEMPA sources said. After lengthy deliberations on ways and means of restoring peace and communal harmony, zonal peace committees comprising Tamil and Muslimn representatives were formed for Kinniya, Thambalakamam, Muttur, Thoppur, Trincomalee Town and Kuchchaveli, the sources said, adding that the peace committees will meet every two weeks. |
