Weerasinghe haul of 10 for 50 bowls Joes to innings win over Bens

St. Joseph's College scored an innings and 34 runs win over St. Benedict's at Kotahena yesterday.

It was somewhat sweet revenge for the Josephians who lost to the Benedictines last year after 37 years. So, it was somewhat refreshing turn of fortune for the Josephians this year.

Rajeev Weerasinghe was the outstanding bowler for the Josephians who had a haul of ten wickets for 50 runs, claiming 7 for 23 in the second innings to add to his first innings haul of three wickets. St. Joseph's who were 143 for 3 wickets overnight, made 224 for 8 wickets declared. St. Benedict's made 101 in the first innings and were shot out for 89 runs in their second turn with that fine bowling by Rajeev Weerasinghe for the Josephians.

St. Benedict's: 101 and 89 (Rajeev Weerasinghe 7 for 23, Ranesh Perera 2 for 27).

St. Joseph's: Overnight 143 for 3 wkts 224 for 8 wkts dec. (Rukshan Perera 35, S. Warnapura 23 not out, P. Maddumaarachchi 2 for 38).
