SLTA to catch 'em young'

The Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) launches yet another promotional campaign to attract beginners next week, inviting youngsters over six years to participate in its 'Free Coaching Scheme' at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Greenpath.

The classes will be conducted by SLTA's panel of qualified coaches and will start on January 15 from 9 am to 12 noon.

"A lot of schools in Colombo don't have tennis on their sports list, but we don't believe that there is a lack of interest in these schools. The free coaching scheme is aimed at providing the opportunity to those youngsters keen on trying a hand at tennis" a spokesman for SLTA said. The SLTA will provide the equipment, including racquets.

The latest venture to promote tennis among the young is in addition to its Mini Tennis Programme, which has not been as popular among Colombo schools as it has in the provinces. Six Colombo schools have joined the Mini Tennis Programme. They are D.S. Senanayake College, St. Peter's, Ananda, Musaeus, Bishop's and Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya.
