I & E open more windows at BIA by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE The congestion at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have been minimised to a greater degree with the upgrading of the departure terminal to enable large numbers of Sri Lankan migrant workers to proceed to the GULF and other countries without hindrance. Controller of Immigration and Emigration Meryn Wijesekera said they have opened eight more counters at the departure lounge last week under the expansion program. The total number of counters at the departure lounge is now sixteen. Meanwhile the Treasury has approved recruitment of 30 additional Immigration and Emigration officers to man the new counters. This would also to ease the workload of officers manning these counters. Internal Ministry sources said they are contemplating whether to recruit unsuccessful candidates and obtained lower marks at the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) Examination or to hold a competitive examination and recruit others as well. |
