US service member killed as van overturns in Kuwait

KUWAIT, March 6 (Reuters) - A U.S. service member was killed and three others hurt when their mini-van overturned after being rear-ended by a civilian vehicle on a highway near Kuwait's naval base, a U.S. army spokesman said on Saturday.

U.S. and Kuwaiti officials were investigating if any foul play was involved in Friday's incident, Captain Randall Baucom said.

The two people inside the civilian vehicle were not from Kuwait or the United States, the U.S. army said in a statement published by local papers on Saturday.

The three injured service members were in a stable condition, the statement said.

Thousands of U.S. troops are stationed in Kuwait, which was used as a launchpad for the U.S.-led war which ousted former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
