Dialog Scholars Commence Soft Skills development

Dialog GSM, has further expanded the country's premier technology scholarship - the Dialog Scholar Programme - by introducing a Soft Skill Development Programme for Dialog Technology Scholars from different Universities.

In keeping with its theme "The Future. Today", Dialog GSM launched this programme with the aim of providing a platform on which the scholars can grow into well-rounded corporate citizens of the future.

Mothilal de Silva, General Manager - Corporate Planning; Quality Systems, Corporate Development & MIS of Dialog GSM said "Dialog GSM considers it a privilege to support these scholars, who are extremely talented. It is our hope that we will contribute through our Premier Technology Scholarship Programme towards building a Community of Scholars in the country who would be strong ambassadors in their respective areas.

We focused on the need to develop their soft skills to assist them in building their leadership instincts". Speaking of the success of the Dialog Scholar Programme, de Silva said, "the Dialog Technology Scholarship Programme is the best of its kind in the country, and its results are already evident.

One of our overseas scholars has topped his batch at the very competitive Multi Media University in Cyber Jayah", de Silva said plans were afoot to strengthen the Dialog Scholar programme further, adding that a second batch of Scholars will be selected soon.

Dialog GSM's partner in the undergraduate soft skills development programme is 3rd Wave Consulting (Pvt) Ltd, a premier consulting and training company in Sri Lanka.

A programme aimed at developing the scholars' lateral thinking has already commenced and Dialog GSM also conducted a two-day interactive training programme which exposed them to areas such as leadership, time management, communication, interpersonal skills and organizational savvy.

Several other programmes aimed at developing the soft skills of the undergraduates are also in the pipeline, while Dialog GSM also plans field trips and recognition programmes for the scholars.

These programmes will be worked out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission. In an effort to extend the soft skills development programme to Dialog Scholars at Ordinary and Advanced Level, a Talent Day has been organized on the 20th and 21st March.

The Dialog Technology Scholars programme, the country's Premier Technology Scholarship programme, sponsors the best Advanced Level and Ordinary Level performers in each of the 25 districts in the island, who wish to continue their education in the Engineering Stream.

The programme is administered in collaboration with the Ministry of Education together with the University Grants Commission.

The 30 Million Rupee Dialog Scholarship Fund supports 54 student sponsorships each year in addiction to the two fully paid scholarships to the Multimedia University in Malaysia, which are granted to the finest.

The Dialog Scholarship programme, positioned as a technology scholarship, is designed to provide deserving students each year with the incentive to pursue their education and to provide leadership for the technology-oriented society of tomorrow.

Reflecting Dialog GSM's strategy of reaching out to the population beyond technological boundaries, the Technology Scholarship programme aims to elevate technical and business competencies of youth by providing them with assistance in acquiring meaningful and marketable skills.

It is therefore geared to develop a highly disciplined, highly responsible and talented workforce for the future.
