New appointments at Browns

The Browns Group of Companies has announced that consequent to the demise of its Chairman Mr. J. Chrisantha R. Cooray, incumbent Deputy Chairman M. V. Theagarajah will assume duties as Chairman of the Group while Roshani Cooray will succeed Theagarajah as Deputy Chairman.

Theagarajah joined the Browns Group in 1962 as a Senior Executive. He thereafter served as the Group Cost Accountant, Group Financial Accountant, Director of Subsidiaries and Group Financial Director. Theagarajah was the first Sri Lankan to become Finance Director of Browns. He was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Group in 1979. He has served the group under four Chairmen, G. Grey, Edmund Cooray, Lester Cooray and J. Chrisantha R. Cooray.

Theagarajah is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Institute of Management and the Institute of Directors. He has held honorary positions in various private, public and government establishments. He is the longest serving Director of the Hatton National Bank and serves on the Boards of 16 other companies.

Roshani Cooray joined the Browns Group of Companies as Director Operations Development. Cooray obtained an MBA degree from the University of Bath in the UK consequent to acquiring a BSc in Applied Economics and Business Management from the Cornell University, New York, USA. She is a Chartered Marketer and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK.

Browns is a highly diversified group of companies involved in the marketing, sales and distribution of products from leading international manufacturers. The company's diverse business activities embrace consumer electronics, agricultural machinery and implements, batteries, office automation products, power generators, hardware, pharmaceuticals, travel and tours.
