Sri Lanka Ladies stroke-play golf in full swing by S. M. JIFFREY ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr. Victoria Gold and Country Resort will host this year's Sri Lanka Ladies Mackwoods Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship 2004 at the Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella and will be played over a period of three days. This Ladies golf championship which was inaugurated in 1974, has grown in stature over the years which more and more ladies participating and providing a lot excitement and thrills. This year being the 30th Anniversary year and the lady golfers are hell bent on providing the biggest show yet so far. A number of ladies teed off on the first day and the defending champion Ms. Jackie Dias proved her class on the first day itself by returning an excellent nett 73 to keep her chances alive of retaining this prestigious title. But the best nett score for the day was carded by Rasika Ekanayake with 70 nett which will put the pressure on Jackie Dias. Young Rasika a virtually unknown name in the golfing circles is a young girl caddy. Indira Tibblins who is not only a regular player at Victoria but has also been a winner on a number of occasions has a nett 72 and could have a go at the Ladies title.
