State vehicles still at campaign!

Fifteen State-owned vehicles which were allegedly 'misused' by candidates for election propaganda have been seized by the police during the past few days. Polls chief Dayananda Dissanayake was appraised of this by Inspector General of Police Indra de Silva at a meeting held at the election Secretariat on Friday.

Representatives of various political parties also attended the meeting. According to the Police chief the Secretariat has intensified measures to monitor the abuse of State vehicles for campaign related activities.

However, sources claimed that State vehicles were being misused by various Ministries with their original number plates manipulated. The police chief had said that vehicles belonging to eighteen ministries and government institutions were currently in use throughout the island for campaign purposes.
