'Inforserve' survey places UPFA ahead of UNP An islandwide opinion survey by a private institute has placed the UPFA ahead of the UNP in significant areas of development employment, reducing cost of living and controlling corruption, revealing that 53.2 per cent of the voters believe the UPFA is capable of fulfilling the aspirations of the people. The social, political and economic survey conducted by 'Inforserve' has revealed that the Alliance would poll 59.7 per cent as opposed to 33.1 per cent by the UNP. The survey had revealed the following: Leadership quality: Chandrika Kumaratunga 57.2%, Ranil Wickremasinghe 37.4% Leadership popularity; as far as leadership qualities are concerned Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is far ahead of her rival, the report further states, In qualities of leadership, uprightness, impartiality and decision-making, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga 49% to 54%, Ranil Wickremesinghe 39% to 48% Sense of responsibility: Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga 57%, Ranil Wickremesinghe 48% Safeguarding the country's image refraining from abuse of power, making sincere efforts to solve the national problem etc. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has reached between 56% to 57% The Freedom Alliance has scored 53.2% as a party capable of fulfilling people's aspirations, leaving behind the UNP with 31.2% A survey on 18 aspects such as development, provision of employment, reduction of cost of living, controlling bribery and corruption etc., reveals that the majority of the populace is not in favour of the UNP. Development activities in favour 32%, not in favour 66%; provision of employment 17% and 82%. Curtailment of the cost of living 15% and 83%, fertilizer price-reduction 13% and 87%, bribery and corruption 28% and 69%. Seventy per cent of the people claim the absence of war is not genuine peace. Only 28% believe the absence of war is real peace. Seventy four per cent opposed federalism while 25% supported it. Fifty per cent believe UNP sponsored peace would not be in the interest of the country. |
