Now, BOC launches Ran Kekulu Gift Voucher BY CHANUKA MANNAPPERUMA Ran Kekulu Gift Voucher, the latest savings product of Bank of Ceylon (BOC), will be launched on April 14, in time for the festive season. Assistant General Manager,Business Development, Bank of Ceylon, Nimal.E. Peiris, said "the main idea of introducing this product is to promote savings among children. First we have introduced Ran Kekulu Savings Account, and now we have developed it as a gift voucher as well". At present, there are 8,69,016 Ran Kekulu accounts with a bank balance of Rs 6.5 billion. The main objective of this account is to encourage savings and thereby protect the child in the event the child loses the parents. Last year, the bank had paid Rs. 14 million for children's requirements such as health and education needs. Explaining about the Ran Kekulu Gift Voucher, Peiris said : "This voucher can be obtained by children upto 18 years of age in the denomination of Rs.1000, 500, 200 and 100 respectively. It is valid for a period of 6 months from the date of issue and it cannot be encashed. Gift vouchers can be purchased from any branch of Bank of Ceylon to open an account and, the existing account holders, are also eligible to make deposits in their respective accounts, he said. The bank had introduced the Ran Kekulu Savings scheme for children upto 18 years as well as 18 plus (18 +) for youth. There are 1,62,160 (18+) accounts. The Ran Kekulu Savings scheme has the added benefit of an insurance coverage, 'Suwadehena' Hospital Insurance policy, for ten sicknesses. Under this scheme, claims could be made upto Rs.75000 in addition to Rs 300 for every single day for medical treatment in a Government Hospital. |
