NTB opens 3 more branches

In keeping with its programme of expansion and development, Nations Trust Bank (NTB) opened 3 more branches as well as yet another ATM during the course of last month.

The branches were opened in Panadura, Gampaha and Kiribathgoda while the ATM was opened at the LIOC outlet in Maradana.

Chairman Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Monetary Board of Sri Lanka and Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Associated Motorways Tilak De Zoysa declared open the Panadura branch, Director of Economic Research of the Central Bank Dr. A. G. Karunasena opened the Gampaha branch, while Deputy Governor, Central Bank P. M. Nagahawatte opened the Kiribathgoda branch.

All 3 branches will have 365 day banking, while NTB's advanced IT infrastructure will provide speedy and reliable customer service as well as customer and management information, whilst being equipped with ATMs.

At the opening of the Panadura branch, De Zoysa said that NTB's latest Annual Report confirmed his belief that the bank was a well run establishment with very prudent policies. He urged NTB to make a difference and focus on the small and medium sectors which had great potential and were the backbone of the country's economy.

Dr. A. G. Karunasena, at the opening of the Gampaha branch said that NTB was one of the few financial institutions to have obtained and announced a credit rating, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and accountability.

Touching on the local financial sector, he said that it was one of the fastest growing segments in the economy, particularly in the last two decades. He said that as of the end of last year there was a total of 1,326 bank branches, while the banking density too had increased and presently stood at 0.69, reflecting increased availability of banking services. He said that in 2003, the financial sector directly contributed about 9% of the GDP while facilitating the functioning of all the economic sectors.

Nagahawatte commended NTB's rapid progress and said that in a remarkable short space of time, they had emerged as a key player in the local financial sector.

NTB hopes to continue its expansion strategy by opening more branches in selected locations during the course of this year, along with several more ATMs, whilst providing their trademark 365 day banking and highly regarded personalised customer service.

Newly appointed CEO, Zulfiqar Zavahir, said he was confident the bank would reach to even greater financial heights and looked forward to the coming financial year as one of further expansion and progress for NTB.
