Bishop's Easter message Bishop of Colombo Rt. Rev. Duleep de Chickera of Church of Ceylon, Diocese of Colombo has urged that there must be no return to war, violence and frengmentation. The ceasefire agreement must be endorsed and steadily nurtured into sustainable peace. Bishop Chickera in his Easter message has further stated: "We now have a new Government and opposition whose collective mandate is to build on these signs of hope and to facilitate life affirming options for all, regardless of party affiliation. While elected representatives do retain their party loyalties, their entry into Parliament places on them a still higher responsibility of national leadership. Confrontational and divisive politics is a betrayal of this higher responsibility and the trust of the people, and is certainly not an entrenched privilege of our political leadership. |
