Racist attack on Muralitharan

My wife and I from the State of Colarado, U.S.A., are on a brief visit to your beautiful country, and we watched with great interest the ongoing contest between the cricket teams of Australia and Sri Lanka played in the true spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. But, we were horrified to read Tod Corbott's scurrilous attack on Muttiah Muralitharan in the next day's papers. Murali has raced to his haul of 500 Test wickets in the shortest and quickest possible time ahead of his rival, Shane Warne.

One can sense the deep frustration, anger and envy in Corbott's scurrilous tirade against Murali. It is another blatant act of aggression by a white man against his coloured brother, who, they think is trying to usurp his place in the field of cricket.

It is really a conspiracy to oust Murali, a coloured man from a small insignificant country, and keep him out of reckoning when he dares to pit his skills against the cricket greats from England and Australia who monopolise the game at every turn.

It is a different kettle of fish in America where we are proud of our coloured brethren for the honour and glory they have brought to the Motherland in the world's major sports like Boxing, Athletics, Swimming, Tennis, Archery, Basketball, Baseball etc. where they have trounced the rest of the world.

No hatred or envy from the white men in the USA who are proud to acclaim the record-breaking feats of the coloured folk.

To establish the white man's supremacy, Tod Corbott has manoeuvred a conspiracy with Darrel Hair and Roy Emerson to halt Murali's progress. But, glorious Don Bradman, the world's greatest ever cricketer of all time, recognised the talent among the coloureds when, in a gesture of unsurpassed nobility, he invited Tendulkar to his home and lavished praise on him for his batting exploits.

Ben Johnson, Colarado, U.S.A.
