Former Environment Minister's house among mosquito breeding grounds A former Environment Minister's residence, which was detected to be a dengue mosquito breeding ground, is now under the microscope of the Public Health Division of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC). The CMC launched a major house-to-house cleaning program last week, to make the city free of mosquito breeding places. Over 2,561 households, including this Minister's, doctors' and several other government officials', have been found to provide the environment for mosquito breeding, said CMC officials. They were issued with red notices and given seven days to clean up. According to CMC sources, over 68 per cent of 'mansions' within the Colombo City have mosquito breeding locations in their large and unclean compounds with overgrown trees and bushes. "The number of mosquito breeding places found in the slums and shanties in the Colombo City is much less," he said. |
