Kavinda and Nirasha - men's and women's champs

Nirasha Guruge won two titles - Women's Open and Girls under-17 at the Janashakthi - Tamil Union Open Squash tournament which ended yesterday at the Tamil Union C and SC at Saravanamuttu Stadium. The tourney was organised by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation.

Guruge beat Vidusha Gurunatha in the women's final in straight sets - 9-2, 9-3 and 9-4.

In the men's final, Kavinda Cooray beat N. S. Jayashantha 3 sets to 1, the scores being 3-9, 9-2, 9-4 and 9-4.

Men's Open: Kavinda Cooray beat N. S. Jayashantha 3-1 (3-9, 9-2, 9-4, 9-4).

Women's Open: Nirasha Guruge beat Vidusha Gurunatha 3-nil (9-2, 9-3, 9-4).

Boys under 19: Eranga Alwis beat Jayalath Jayaratne 3-nil (9-4, 9-3, 9-0).

Girls under 19: Tehani Guruge beat Vidusha Gurunatha (latter reported late for match and Tehani was awarded 'walk-over').

Men's over 35: Janaka Suwari beat E. Navinchandra 3-2 (4-9, 9-6, 7-9, 9-0, 9-2).

Other winners

Girls under 11: Nadainchi Udangawa, Boys under 11: Nadish Herath, Girls under 13: Ashani Weerasinghe, Boys under 13: Yaseen Issadeen, Girls under 15: Damindi Udangawa, Boys under 15: Chakranga Rajapakse. Girls under 17: Nirasha Guruge, Boys under 17: Eranga Alwis. Men's over 45: Lt. Col. Sarath Jayawardena.

The chief guest at the awards ceremony was Mr. Triphon Mirando - Marketing Director of Janashakthi Insurance Company.
