Marvan Atapattu a marvellous team man - Michael de Zoysa

by Ranjan Anandappa

Marvan Atapattu is a brilliant team man, and should have led Sri Lanka about five years hence. His appointment of captain had been belated.

This observation was made by Michael de Zoysa a member of Cricket House Committee of the SSC when the Sri Lanka captain was felicitated at a brief ceremony on Friday for his wonderful showing in Zimbabwe.

The president of SSC, President Counsel Daya Perera presented a memento to the newly elected national cricket captain.

Michael de Zoysa said that Marvan had joined the illustrious band of captains from SSC to lead the country. Atapattu first joined the club as a 17 year-old youngster and has been a marvellous team man who was prepared to listen with no arguments. Even in his early days at the SSC, he displayed signs of brilliance with a highly positive approach.

Although he had the tendency of running himself out in matches in recent times, he used to be an absolute brilliant runner between the wickets. He had the ability to convert the one's into two's and two's into three's which often kept the scoreboard moving rapidly.

Refering to the forthcoming Australian tour, he wished Marvan well to lead his country and said that the Test matches will be played in Northern Australia where the wickets are not as quick as the pitches at other venues.
