New flight kitchen at BIA

Sri Lankan Airlines' Catering Services Ltd., has taken another step towards improving its services with the launch of US $25 million flight kitchen project last Friday.

With this new project, the Catering Services will be able to triple its capacity when the project is completed by the end of next year. This will enable SriLankan Airlines to exploit existing and emerging opportunities in the catering industry.

This new flight kitchen will be located on a five acre land close to airport on the Katunayake-Minuwangoda road.

CEO of Sri Lankan Catering, Dilip Nijhawan said the new flight kitchen will comprise of four levels housing the stores and engineering, operation division, production and administration division. "Now our services provide 500 meals per day and with the new project we hope to increase it to 13,000 meals per day."

He said the kitchen will incorporate the latest technology and systems in aviation catering with state of the art equipment.
